The Washington Monument is a 555 foot obelisk located at the center of the Washington Mall in Washington DC. Construction of the monument began in 1848 and completed in 1884.
The public is normally permitted to tour the monument. The Washington monument, however, is currently closed for renovations due to earthquake damage that occurred in 2011.
